SmalleyFlat-ended crest-to-crest corrugated springs – CM/CMS
Springs for tight spaces and even load distribution
CMS and CS crest-to-crest corrugated springs are flat wire springs with flat ends.
These ends provide a secure 360° contact surface for uniform load distribution.
They are therefore recommended for applications requiring a larger contact surface for more malleable materials such as plastic or aluminium.
Like the CM and C ® peak-to-peak springs, the CMS and CS peak-to-peak springs also offer space savings when used to replace coil springs. They can develop similar forces and the same deflection while occupying half (50%) of the axial space (or even less).
With a smaller spring footprint, CMS and CS peak-to-peak corrugated springs are ideal for small spaces.
Other features to be aware of: the operating heights, clear heights and heights under load of CMS and CS crest-to-peak ® corrugated springs are reduced and optimised. In addition, they function as bearing preload devices. Finally, they neutralise play and compensate for dimensional variations within an assembly.
A design that ensures wave alignment
Crest-to-crest springs retain the strength and load specifications of a round wire spring but also have other advantages.
They are pre-stacked in series, which has the effect of reducing the spring stiffness in proportion to the number of turns.
The design also has the advantage of eliminating the need to maintain the alignment of the corrugations. There is no need to use an orientation device or place an indexer between the springs.
As the spring is formed from a single wire, the wave crests retain their configuration.
Finally, there are no tooling costs for special parts.
Sizes available
Smalley CMS and CS series crest-to-peak corrugated springs are recommended for applications requiring low to medium stiffnesses and high deflections with low to medium forces.
The CMS series are metric and available in carbon steel and stainless steel. They are used in diameters from 5 to 60 mm.
The CS series are in inches and available in carbon steel and stainless steel. They are used in diameters from 0.312” to 2”.
As a replacement for helicoidal compression springs, Crest-to-Crest springs can develop similar forces, yet occupy half (50%) the space, or even less
Crest-to-Crest wave springs will maintain the same force and specifications as conventional round wire springs but with the following advantages: lowered and compacted operating heights, free heights and solid heights.
