TI-PFHV universal/combination captive head screws
TI-PFHV universal/combination captive head screws, also known as captive screws, are a fastening system for thin sheet metal, enabling external panels to be securely fastened to a target housing.
A TI-PFHV universal/combination captive head screw works in the same way as a standard screw. However, it features a specialized reduced shank, located beneath the screw head. This waterproof shank is designed to contain a captive washer to ensure that the screw or bolt is held in the assembly or housing.
Principles of use :
TI-PFHV universal/combination captive head screws are easily installed by pressing into punched or drilled holes. Holes require no special preparation, deburring, countersinking or reaming.
All screws feature ends designed for precise positioning in the sheet metal support. Before assembly, the screw has a certain amount of float to facilitate assembly.
Captive screws can be used directly as a complete spring assembly. Once the fasteners are installed, the reverse side of the panel remains smooth.

As its name suggests, the universal captive screw has a universal footprint. It has a large knurled knob which allows it to be screwed in and out by hand.
These cap screws, as they are sometimes also called, are particularly used in applications where loose or lost screws could cause serious damage, due to their ability to be held in an assembly once it has been dismantled.
Another advantage is that their use also makes it easy to open a panel, avoiding problems such as machine downtime, general maintenance and the need for frequent component replacement. For example, in computer housings, where they enable protective panels to be removed for safe access to the computer’s interior, without the risk of screws falling out.
